Trump Invites Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Members to White House
President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Event
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The president explained he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump addressed the press. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to assist law enforcement in the capital.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Government Changes
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The event led the administration to halt asylum applications and halt issuing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit the family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with honor, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
