Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the final seventh game of the ALCS.
Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not anyone else anywhere that I want up in that moment other than George Springer with his October magic," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the sole team that has never reached in a championship series.
Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" in the wake of his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts this season.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this one," he remarked.
Toronto claimed the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
