Medical Expert Cautions
âPeople are injecting substances they canât verify. Although the science behind retatrutide is sound, these online products may not include what they advertise,â said Jason Murphy, the head of pharmacy at Chemist4U.
Dr Crystal Wyllie of Asda Online Doctor connected the surge in interest to recent price rises for authorized weight-loss drugs such as Mounjaro. âWith prices increasing, patients are using social media. But counterfeit injections are highly risky. You canât be certain whatâs inside or whether the environment they were produced in was sterile,â she explained.
Her team has already encountered individuals harmed by self-injection from unverified sources. âWe recognize the disappointment, but buying from Telegram or WhatsApp is taking chances with your well-being,â said the doctor. âThese materials could be impure or incorrectly dosed.â

A representative from Eli Lilly said the substance was in third stage research studies and had not been reviewed or authorized by any regulatory agency anywhere in the world. âConsequently at this point no one can market [it] for human use,â they explained, noting that any item âfalsely representing itself as a company experimental substance not yet approved ⊠may expose patients to potentially serious health risksâ.
