Three-time Most Valuable Player Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' leg setback.
Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 to the Heat.
The Serbian center injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half following an accidental contact with fellow Nugget Jones.
The other player came down on the foot of the big man, and he instantly collapsed to the ground holding his leg.
The star, that is leading the league season in rebounds and dimes, posted 21 points and eight assists in the matchup before incurring the problem.
Jokic will undergo an scan on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the issue.
"Immediately, he realized something was wrong," commented Denver head coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Whoever who is injured, it's tough to see, most notably somebody as important as he is. More information will come tomorrow."
"We will continue as a team. Clearly, right now, I'm focused just about Jokic personally and the frustration of facing an event like that."
