That Gruesome Cartoon Movie Ending That Lingers Viewers
Among all the mature animated films I have personally viewed, no other has remained with me as much as the fear-filled conclusion of a explicitly bloody as well as overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, this Spanish filmmaker developed a grim, bleak and frequently brutal universe with some tiny , desolate twinges of optimism.
While The Unicorn Wars feels like it came from a drive to push animation even more, the filmmaker stated that it was actually a try to convey a universal, cross-cultural theme about “the mutual source of every conflict.”
That idea is expressed through a squad of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly based on a famous series of cuddly figures.
Growing up in a community built around aggression and the military-industrial complex, many of these animals are obsessed with killing unicorns, because of a holy book which states the bears they previously were kings of the forest, until the horned beings forced them out.
Some have not completely fallen for the propaganda, , would rather experiment with drugs or mate outdoors.
Unlike their cuddly counterparts, these bright beings have visible genitals , obvious urges.
For a particular particularly cruel, skeptical animal, Bluey, the war with the unicorns transforms into a route toward dominance — and specifically to authority above his softer, nicer brother Tubby.
The character acts as a tormentor , an apparent antisocial figure , and as fear dominates his unit and claims his teammates individually, he takes progressively influence on his own behalf, through ever more bloody, harmful methods.
Meanwhile, the unicorns are suffering their own horror, through an expanding, harmful creature in their woods.
“Initially, it seems like a humorous movie,” the director said. “But then it evolves into a more intense and sorrowful film. And in the finale, it transforms into a horror film.”
Unicorn Wars commences feeling a bit like one of the more quirky features by an iconic filmmaker, which find a wicked pleasure in letting drawn beings swear, fire weapons, or engage sexually.
Then it turns into something more like a more grim movie from that creator, featuring progressively graphic violence and a tangible connection to genuine suffering of battle.
By the end, it becomes a complete Grand Guignol massacre.
The terror that turns this a perfect Halloween movie kicks in much sooner than indicated.
The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore gorehounds, for lovers of extreme cinema who wish to watch something they have not watched previously, and can endure a story that pulls absolutely no punches.
Watch it with the lights off with no disturbances, and the conclusion will burrow deep within you and stay with you.
