Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his position following another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from management,” the coach stated.
“It's important to change things and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with performances like these.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
