New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police released security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was expected to be a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he attends every game. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
