Iran Reports Attack on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in response for a "massive" and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the US has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have intercepted missiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Additional Developments
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
It said debris landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
