Former Physician Charged with Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have stated that a ex- physician stands accused of carrying out sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.
Details of the Grave Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous acts of sexual assault – some of which involve acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.
A senior CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Investigation
These allegations follow what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
Prosecutors said the forty-five charges comprise:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of penetrative assault.
- 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
