Esteemed actress Helen Mirren Set to Receive Golden Globe Cecil B DeMille Award.
The acclaimed UK star Dame Helen, currently recipient of an Academy Award, several BAFTA honors, Globes trophies, five Emmys, along with a Tony Award, is poised to earn an additional prestigious accolade to her trophy case: the DeMille Golden Globe career honor.
Ceremony Details
The actress, eighty, formerly given a damehood back in 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow in 2014, will pick up the award in a ceremony on the eighth of January, three days before the primary Globes ceremony take place, during a program described by the organization as the Golden Eve event.
Also part of the event will be the presentation of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett award for TV work, the recipient of which has yet to be announced. Last year’s winners were Viola Davis and Ted Danson.
“Mirren stands as a force of nature, and her career is truly remarkable,” stated the organization’s president, the Globes’ leader. “Her transcendent performances and commitment to her craft constantly motivate countless performers and audiences alike. It is a profound honour to award her this lifetime achievement honor.”
Professional Journey
Mirren rose to fame back in the 70s via important performances in stage productions in London’s theater district and with the Royal Shakespeare Company and in cinematic works such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.
Back in the 90s, her lead performance in detective drama Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase further. Other important films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.
She earned an Academy Award for her performance as Elizabeth II in the cinematic work The Queen, a role she revisited back in 2013 for The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play concerning the sessions with the Queen and prime minister Thatcher, a performance for which she earned a Tony during 2015.
