Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad has just 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
